A often neglected magnet for a 50s PAF style pickup is alnico 3. It has a sweet, slightly compressed quality while being note defined as only a low output PAF style can be. Not a big mid 'hump' in frequency like alnico 2 ... it's a classic jazz or blues pickup ... but absolutely loves effects, adores Tube Screamers™ and pairs wonderfully with an old style Fuzz like a Big Muff™. In fact we have sever Doom Metal players who use these and various boutique Fuzz and distortion pedals to great effect!
